Veronique’s Areas of Expertise:

* * Veronique Chevalier’s Steampunk “SUPER” CULTURE:

Symbiosis Between Various Subcultures & Fandoms * *

Veronique created, moderated and premiered this unique panel on both days at Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo LA 2012, to much acclaim, and she is available to present this topic at YOUR event as well. Her immersion, in various capacities, within Steampunk over the years, has given her a unique bird’s eye perspective on the ever-growing genre.

Steampunk began as a literary movement often described as “Victorian Science Fiction”. Certainly the written word is a key ingredient, but Steampunk is showing signs of becoming a multicultural/multidimensional fandom. What’s unique about it is that it has drawn from sub-cultures ranging  from costume enthusiasts; to makers & tinkerers; Goths; Historical Re-enactors, to Burners and beyond! This diversity has contributed to making Steampunk something greater than the sum total of its parts. Panelists from various backgrounds come together to describe how and why Steampunk captured their imaginations and drew them in from other sub-cultures.

Other topics about which she is knowledgeable include:

* Being A Professional Steampunk * Steampunk Fashion

* Steampunk & Gender Identity * Steampunk Music

* Working The Steampunk Circuit * Creating a Steampunk Persona

Veronique’s “Steampunk As Superculture” on Answers.com!

Culture and community

Because of the popularity of steampunk, there is a growing movement towards establishing steampunk as a culture and lifestyle.[79] Some fans of the genre adopt a steampunk aesthetic through fashion,[80] home decor, music, and film. This may be described as neo-Victorianism, which is the amalgamation of Victorian aesthetic principles with modern sensibilities and technologies.[80]

In September 2012, a panel was held at Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo, chaired by steampunk entertainer Veronique Chevalier and with panelists including magician Pop Hadyn and members of the steampunk performance group The League of STEAM, which suggested that because steampunk was inclusive of and encorporated ideas from various other subcultures such as goth, neo-Victorian, and cyberpunk as well as a growing number of fandoms, it was fast becoming a super-culture rather than a mere subculture.[81]…”
